Huey lewis stuck with you1/3/2024 “Everybody and his brother was waiting for this album,” Lewis says. When we finally stopped touring, this huge wave of reality came crashing in behind us.” The whole time we were on the road, I don’t think we knew how famous we were getting. “ Sports came out and just did a slow, steady climb during ’84 and ’85. “While we were following Sports around the world, I don’t think we were aware of what was happening,” says Cipollina. God, what are you gonna do? You must feel awful.īy the fall of 1985, after three years on the road, it was time for the band to get a grip – and time to write and record another album. As he’d shake hands or sign autographs, he knew even before they opened their mouths what was coming: Gosh, you guys. At the grocery store, he’d run into an old friend or, more often, some fans. Hey, Huey, how’s the new record coming? It became impossible for Lewis to leave the sanctuary of his nineteenth-century English-style carriage house – one of the spoils of his success – without hearing that nightmarish refrain. “We wanted to prove that Sports wasn’t an accident.” In the three years since the last album was released, its huge success had become something of a specter, and no one felt the pressure more than Huey Lewis. “So much was at stake,” says bassist Mario Cipollina. The “magic circle,” as the band members sometimes call themselves, didn’t talk much about the pressure, but everyone felt it. The sign, pinned up by keyboardist Sean Hopper in the hope of inspiring a bit of levity, did little to break the tension that plagued the sessions. In no particular order, here are 53 soundtracks-from time-honored classics to Disney jams and some new note-worthy contenders-that know exactly what songs will go together for the perfect cinematic and musical experience. The sign hanging on the recording-studio wall warned, “Album – Don’t Choke.” It was March 1986, and Huey Lewis and the News were trying to record their follow-up to Sports, their smash 1983 album, which sold 9 million copies and yielded five Top Twenty singles. We're aiming for the latter with these bbs. A favorite movie soundtrack is for listening in your car with the window open while you're driving so you can sing along. As my husband likes to say, a favorite movie score is for listening with the windows up while you're driving so you can appreciate the gorgeous sounds and probably cry. Important note: This list doesn't include scores, which are instrumental songs crafted specifically to pair with movie scenes (think: John Williams, Michael Giacchino, Hans Zimmer, and more of the greats that beef up our favorite movies). Movie soundtracks = an underrated way to find new music! There's often that one, epic song the movie's known for-the one that plays over the end credits and sends you out of the movie theater with a smile on your face-but there are also hidden gems that maybe only get a few lines in the film but are utter bangers in their own right. The best soundtracks exist outside of the movie, giving you all the feels without all the *drama.* It's like a specially curated mixtape (aka a playlist, duh) from your favorite movie to you. Not every movie soundtrack has to go as hard as it does.
